What your dancer learns

More than steps.

Hip hop teaches rhythm, control and stage presence. Over a season, dancers build:

  • Grooves and bounce

The foundational rhythms of hip hop, done on the beat and in the body, not just the feet.

  • Isolations and control

Moving the head, chest, arms and hips independently. The skill behind sharp, clean choreography.

  • Choreography

Learning and remembering longer combinations, then performing them full out with the group.

  • Confidence and freestyle

Short, low-pressure freestyle moments help dancers find their own style.

By age

Hip Hop that grows with them.

Classes are grouped by age and level, so every dancer learns with peers at a similar stage. Here is how class changes as dancers grow.

Ages 5–7

Basic grooves, simple footwork and short routines to clean, age-appropriate music. Lots of energy, lots of structure.

Ages 8–12

Faster footwork, sharper isolations and longer choreography. Dancers start adding texture and performance quality.

Teens

Current styles and more complex combinations, with an emphasis on musicality, precision and stage presence.

Questions parents ask

Hip Hop FAQ.

What age can my child start hip hop?

Hip hop classes at Danzone start at age 5. Classes are grouped by age so every dancer learns with peers at a similar stage.

Is the music in hip hop class kid-friendly?

Yes. Every song is chosen and edited to be age-appropriate before it's used in class.

What should my dancer wear to hip hop?

Comfortable clothes they can move in and clean indoor sneakers that are only worn in the studio. Hair should be tied back.

Does my child need experience to start hip hop?

No. Beginner classes assume zero background, and instructors build technique from the very first class.

Should my child take ballet as well as hip hop?

It's not required, but many dancers pair them. Ballet builds balance and control, and it makes hip hop choreography look sharper.

Six styles, one studio

Mix and match.

Most of our dancers train across two or three styles, which is how technique compounds.
